Since 1998, the Mount Carmel Foundation has hosted Champagne & Diamonds, a winter fundraising event designed to help meet special needs in the central Ohio community and the Mount Carmel Health System. The event reaches out to members of the Greater Columbus community, Mount Carmel physicians, guests and area corporations for support.
2010 Gala Raised Record-breaking Amount In Benefit Of Mobile Mammography ProgramThe 2010 Champagne & Diamonds event was held Saturday, February 13 at the Hilton Columbus at Easton. The event raised a record-breaking amount of $260,000 that will go toward the purchase of a new coach with digital imaging capabilities for the Mount Carmel Mobile Mammography Program. .More than 500 physicians, corporate and community leaders attended the event. Leadership funding was provided by Diamond Sponsor Emergency Services, Inc. and Platinum Sponsors Breast Care Specialist, Inc. – Dr. Linda Han, Higman Soyring Foundation, Mount Carmel Columbus Cardiology Consultants, Inc., National City (now a Member of PNC), and Radiology, Inc. Click here for a complete list of Sponsors. The event also featured a special presentation of the 2010 Dr. Tom F. Lewis Spirit of Philanthropy Award. This year’s Award went to Dr. Mark Segal, Hematology and Oncology. Finalists also included: Dr. J. Richard Briggs, Orthopedic Surgery; Dr. Charles Hickey, Ophthalmology (retired); and Dr. Alan Murnane, Obstetrics and Gynecology. About the Mount Carmel Mobile Mammography ProgramBreast cancer is the second-leading cause of cancer deaths among women. Mammograms save lives by detecting breast cancer early, when it’s most treatable. Mount Carmel is dedicated to providing as many mammograms as possible to women in the community. Each year the Mount Carmel Mobile Mammography Coach travels throughout central Ohio ensuring that thousands of women receive this critical exam. But due to age, wear and tear, the current coach needs to be replaced.
