The Mount Carmel Foundation is pleased to recognize Dr. Robert Turner with the 2012 Dr. Tom F. Lewis Spirit of Philanthropy Award. This award was presented by Dr. Patrick Ecklar at the 2012 Champagne & Diamonds event on February 11 at the Hyatt Regency. Dr. Turner has been with Mount Carmel for 33 years and completed his residency training at Mount Carmel, too. He is a teacher, mentor and trainer to many, including serving as team physician for the past 25 years to the Columbus West High School football team. Dr. Turner provides medical equipment (when needed), treats injured players, and has even been known to purchase and mix the Gatorade for the team, for which he has his own secret recipe. “It is the best in town!” says Dr. Turner. “I do it because these kids really need a break and I love it. A lot of kids are able to take what they’ve learned on the field to make a better life for themselves. The best reward is when a kid comes back and has gone onto college and become successful,” Turner said. The Dr. Tom Lewis Award is given annually to recognize outstanding Mount Carmel physicians who not only demonstrate exemplary leadership and patient care, but also generously give of their time, talent and financial resources to support our patients and our community. Joining Dr. Turner as finalists at Champagne & Diamonds were Dr. Alan Gora, Emergency Medicine, and Dr. Frank Orth, Emergency Medicine. |
