Retired MCSA physician creates endowment to provide nursing scholarships for MCSA Perinatal Associates

On November 2, the Mount Carmel Foundation was proud to present the first two scholarships from the Dr. Glenn and Elsie Haninger Labor & Delivery Endowment Fund to Mount Carmel St. Ann’s associates Linda McSweeney and Melissa King.

The Dr. Glenn and Elsie Haninger Labor & Delivery Endowment was created by Dr. Glenn Haninger (“Dr. Glenn”), retired Mount Carmel St. Ann’s OBGYN physician who practiced at St. Ann’s hospital from 1955-1992. His love of St. Ann’s family atmosphere and dedication to strong Catholic values were two of the many reasons he’s chosen to leave his legacy at St. Ann’s in this way. Dr. Glenn’s strong passion for teaching and lifelong learning will be remembered for many years to come through the endowment fund, which was named for Dr. Glenn and his late wife Elsie, who passed away in December 2009.

Linda McSweeney has worked in the Mother Infant unit at Mount Carmel St. Ann’s since 1990, and has been the Nurse Manager of the unit since 1998. She is currently pursuing her BSN at Mount Carmel College of Nursing and says she would eventually like to pursue a Master’s Degree and perhaps one day teach nursing students.

Melissa King obtained her BSN at Mount Carmel College of Nursing in 2003, and has been a staff nurse in Mount Carmel St. Ann’s Labor & Delivery for the past 8 years. She is currently enrolled at Mount Carmel College of Nursing pursuing a Master’s Degree to become a Family Nurse Practitioner.

The Mount Carmel Foundation would like to thank Dr. Glenn Haninger for his generosity in creating the Dr. Glenn and Elsie Haninger Labor & Delivery Endowment Fund, which will help Mount Carmel St. Ann’s perinatal associates realize their dreams of furthering their nursing careers for many years to come.
