The Mount Carmel Foundation Physician Philanthropy Committee proudly awarded the 2010 Dr. Tom F. Lewis Spirit of Philanthropy Award to Dr. Mark Segal, Hematology and Oncology, on February 13 at the Champagne and Diamonds gala.
Dr. Mark Segal has been with Mount Carmel for 26 years. Board certified in Medical Oncology and Hematology by the American Board of Internal Medicine, Dr. Segal is currently on the teaching staff at Mount Carmel Medical Center and is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at Ohio State University and the current chair of the Board for the Columbus Clinical Cancer Oncology Program. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Society of Hematology, Community Oncology Alliance, National Hemophilia Foundation, Columbus Medical Association and Ohio State Medical Association. Dr. Segal was instrumental in creating an outpatient clinic for indigent patients with cancer and blood disorders, which recently opened on February 5. He is the physician on call, and when there is an indigent patient with cancer or a blood disorder he and a resident visit the patient.Dr. Segal supports many community organizations including Haven for Hope Cancer Foundation, Holy Family Soup Kitchen, Congregation Beth Tikvah, St. Francis of Assisi Parish and the Mount Carmel Foundation. Also honored at Champagne & Diamonds were Dr. J. Richard Briggs (Orthopedic Surgery), Dr. Charles Hickey (Ophthalmology), and Dr. Alan Murnane (Obstetrics and Gynecology).The Dr. Tom F. Lewis Spirit of Philanthropy Award recognizes outstanding Mount Carmel physicians who not only demonstrate exemplary leadership and patient care, but also generously give of their time, talent and financial resources to support our patients and our community. |
