Mount Carmel Foundation Receives Generous Donation from Central Ohio Surgical Associates

Kent State University & Central Ohio Surgical Associates Comprehensive Breast Center support Mount Carmel breast cancer patients

The Mount Carmel Foundation received a generous donation from COSA Comprehensive Breast Center on behalf of Kristine Slam, MD, F.A.C.S. Dr. Slam, a former Division I gymnast at Kent State University and MAC Freshman of the Year in 1996, received these funds from KSU's annual "Flip for a Cure" gymnastics meet. At this meet, funds were raised to assist breast cancer patients and as a result, $4,801.50 was donated to the Mount Carmel Foundation to do just that. These funds will be used to financially assist Mount Carmel Health System patients who are undergoing breast cancer treatment.

Dr. Slam is a breast dedicated surgeon and serves as the Medical Director for Cancer Services at Mount Carmel East. As a Mount Carmel physician and surgeon, Dr. Slam has designated these funds to financial assistance for breast cancer treatment and this assistance will be available through a grant application process. Up to $500 will be awarded to Mount Carmel breast cancer patients based on demonstrated financial need.

Over the past six years, Kent State University has raised over $25,000 to support organizations in their efforts to assist those suffering from breast cancer. The Mount Carmel Foundation is grateful to be the recipient of this year's funds and would like to thank Kent State University, "Flip for a Cure", as well as Dr. Slam, for their dedication to supporting and caring for women who have breast cancer.
