Since 1998, the Mount Carmel Foundation has hosted Champagne & Diamonds, a fundraising event with the goal of helping meet unique healthcare needs in our community. One of central Ohio’s most engaging gala events, Champagne & Diamonds, brings Mount Carmel physicians, corporate leaders and community advocates together in support of the Mount Carmel Foundation and its many worthwhile programs.

Event Details

Guests will enjoy a cocktail reception beginning at 6:30 p.m. followed by dinner, dessert and live entertainment. Detailed information will be sent to all guests prior to the event. 2019 Event Beneficiary - Mount Carmel Outreach

It has been said, "There's no greater love than a mother's." At Mount Carmel, the greatest love stemmed from a Mother and a Sister. In 1886, Mother M. Angela and Sister M. Rufina Dunn, Sisters of the Holy Cross, left their home in Notre Dame, and came to Columbus where they transformed a four-story redbrick building into the Hawkes Hospital of Mount Carmel. The hospital had 18 private rooms, an operating room, and two wards. The Sisters provided healthcare ministry to the community and their hearts shone brightly as they extended their care to orphaned children and unwed mothers.

Today, Mount Carmel is the second largest health system in central Ohio and has grown to four hospitals, 65 primary and specialty locations and a College of Nursing with 1,100 students. Mount Carmel's commitment to the poor and underserved remains strong. Thanks to generous donor support, the Mount Carmel Foundation provides daily education, wellness, and social and support services to strengthen our community, impacting more than 100,000 lives this year alone.

While many lives have been transformed, Mount Carmel is only able to meet a portion of our community's needs. Outreach and community services, by design, meet and serve people where they are. To be successful, building relationships and creating trust are key, and compassionate caregivers are the ones who make a difference.

In February 2019, Champagne & Diamonds will honor the legacy of the Sisters of the Holy Cross, whose mission states, "compassion moves us to reflect on the signs of the times, discern needs and respond. We stand in solidarity with the poor and powerless." Mount Carmel remains committed to Franklinton, where the ministry began more than 130 years ago. Proceeds raised at Champagne & Diamonds will support Outreach programs and meeting the needs of those who are underserved. During the next three years, all Mount Carmel Outreach services will consolidate and move to Mount Carmel's Franklinton campus. An onsite hub model will be developed to connect people with much needed services. Through Champagne & Diamonds, you can help us enhance and strengthen the legacy of the Sisters of the Holy Cross today and into the future. Funds from the gala will support:

  • A NEW MOBILE COACH
    • Why It's Important:
      • The Mount Carmel Mobile Coach is an urgent care center on wheels providing free basic medical care to the homeless and underserved. Medical care includes checkups, needed vaccinations and mental health counseling. The coach visits 10 different locations in central Ohio on a rotating basis and is staffed by a family practice physician, nurse practitioner, registered nurses, medical technicians, bilingual caseworkers and administrators.
    • Why We Need A New Mobile Coach:
      • Mount Carmel has provided mobile service for more than 30 years. The current mobile coach is a decade old and is deteriorating. When it is out of service―an increasing occurrence―clinics have to close, making them unable to provide critical services.
      • *The Sisters of the Holy Cross will be featured prominently on the new coach.
  • STRENGTHEN AND EXPAND COMMUNITY SERVICES
    • Why It's Important:
      • Community services bring hope and comfort to more than 40,000 central Ohioans each year. Addiction, education, wellness, social and support services strengthen the health and wellness of members of the Franklinton community and the surrounding areas.
    • Why We Need to Expand Services:
      • Mount Carmel must continue to grow, to meet significant community needs. Plans to increase critical support by having more community health workers, peer supporters and social workers on the ground are under development. The new hub model, with additional professionals, will preserve and extend the care and legacy of the Sisters of the Holy Cross.

It is time to take the rich legacy that embodies the sisters of the Holy Cross and elevate it to the next level.

In 1972, Sister M. Nicholas said, "It was very important to give our employees our philosophy and our values." The values of the Sisters live on today and are an integral part of Mount Carmel's work.

Through Champagne & Diamonds, we ask for your support in assisting those who need our help the most. The Sisters of the Holy Cross have impacted our community for 132 years through their selflessness and love for others. It's a legacy that has spanned generations. Loving the least of us and caring for the sick, the Sisters have been a living example of God's word in the ever-changing world of central Ohio.
